Sustainability

We’re serious about limiting the impact buildings have on the natural environment and strive to reduce energy demands and carbon dioxide emissions at every opportunity. We champion passive building design, cutting edge building services technologies and low and zero carbon energy.

Be Lean

Use less energy

Be Clean

Use energy efficiently

Be Green

Use renewable energy

Our engineered solutions embrace four sustainable design principles to reduce energy and water demands, provide efficient building services systems, implement low and zero carbon energy and reclaim water.

Principal One:

Be Lean and Reduce Demands

We collaborate with project stakeholders to develop and test passive building features which reduce water consumption and energy demands associated with space heating, space cooling, ventilation, power and lighting. Passive building features may include high performance fabric, air tightness, thermal mass or daylighting etc.

Principal Two:

Be Clean and Use Efficient Systems

Once demands are reduced with passive building features, we develop and test efficient mechanical and electrical systems to consume the least amount of energy and water possible. Efficient systems may include condensing boilers, high efficiency chillers, energy recovery, LED lighting or low water flow devices etc.

Principal Three:

Be Green and Use Renewable Energy

To limit building carbon dioxide emissions, we develop low and zero carbon energy sources to serve the efficient engineering systems which satisfy the reduced energy and water demands. Low and zero carbon energy sources may include combined heat and power, air source heat pumps, biofuels or photovoltaic panels etc.

Principal Four:

Reclaim Water

To limit the consumption of potable water supplied by mains infrastructure, we develop site based water reclamation systems to source water locally or recycle water for reuse. Water reclamation my include rainwater recycling, grey water recycling or groundwater collection etc.

During our feasibility studies and virtual building modelling, we test the effectiveness of potential sustainable solutions and empower project stakeholders with project specific data to facilitate informed decision making throughout the design and construction process.
